Is there a Blue Book for RVs?
Kelley Blue Book company and Edmunds True Market Value guides are brand names that are often associated with a vehicle’s fair market value. Both have standard valuation schedules for all makes and models of cars and trucks, but don’t calculate the estimated value of recreational vehicles. The term “blue book value” is often incorrectly used as a generic term to describe the value of a vehicle.
The National Automobile Dealer’s Association (NADA) value is used to determine the value of RVs and travel trailers. You can get the NADA private market and trade-in value of an RV by inputting some basic information into their website. Some websites such as RV Trader, Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist will allow you to comparison shop and see what comparable RV’s are selling for in your local area.
How to Determine Your RV’s Value
At NADA’s homepage you can select the make, model and year of your RV from a list and answer some basic questions about its condition and other features. Once you complete filling out information about your RV, enter your ZIP code and you'll instantly receive an estimated resale value for your camper. You'll see several different values including Low Retail and Average Retail book values for your recreational vehicle.
How to Find a Buyer
The demand for affordably priced RVs has skyrocketed since the Covid pandemic started, and you have a lot more options than simply selling your camper to a dealership or trading it in. RV Trader offers the most features for sellers and allows head-to-head comparisons of similar vehicles in your area. The NADA value is not a fixed price. You might be motivated to accept less than full book value if it means a quicker sale. Savvy buyers might also be prepared to pay a little extra for a gently used vehicle that comes complete with detailed maintenance records.
