You love traveling in your RV, but space does come at a premium, which means that you’ll probably try to pack as lightly as you can. One way you can save some space is to pack as few changes of clothes as you think you’ll need and find ways to do laundry during your trip so that you can wear clean garments without having to stuff your entire wardrobe into your RV for the duration of your trip.

Since doing laundry in your RV can be a challenge, we’ve assembled these helpful tips to make the process easier.

Visit a Laundromat

One of the easier methods that doesn’t require you to have anything but quarters and detergent is to visit a laundromat in a small town or city that you visit. Some campgrounds even have laundry facilities on-site that you can use. Just make sure that you’re ready to pay and that you have the time to stay near your clothes and transfer them between the washer and dryer.

Wash By Hand

If you don’t have many pieces of clothing to wash, you could simply wash your clothes by hand in a bucket of soapy water. Hanging your clothes out to air-dry on a nice day will get them dry faster than leaving them in your RV.

Buy a Portable Washer

Small portable washing machines can be purchased that function in a variety of ways. These machines are good for smaller loads that don’t need a full washer, and they can be used in the comfort of your RV instead of waiting at a public facility. You’ll also still need to find a way to air-dry your garments.

Invest in a Washer/Dryer Unit

If your RV has the room and you have the funds, installing a washer/dryer unit may be the most practical option of all, especially if you live in your RV full-time or have a large family that dirties a lot of clothes and towels very quickly. Stackable units or all-in-one machines are the best choice for an RV because they can save space.

General Tips

It’s best to wash your clothes in smaller loads more frequently, especially when washing by hand or using a small portable washer. You simply won’t have the space for a giant load, and you can complete the chore reasonably quickly if the load isn’t large.

Finding a way to hang up your clothes outside your RV is good, whether it’s a folding drying rack that you store in a closet or a clothesline with clothes pins that you string up between two trees.
