You've suffered through many long, cold weeks of winter, but now that spring is here, you can get back out on the open road where you belong! However, you can't start traveling just yet. You'll need to do some RV maintenance first to ensure your rig is ready to travel after being in storage all winter.

We've created the following checklist to help you keep track of what you need to to get your rig ready for spring. If you have any questions or need a service appointment before your next trip, visit Jubilee R.V. Centre in Kamloops. We proudly serve those in Vancouver, Prince George, and Vernon, British Columbia.

1. Inspect Your RV

You'll want to begin by giving your rig a good examination. This is a good opportunity to open all the doors, windows, cabinets, slide-outs, and awnings so the inside can air out.

Check the Exterior

There's a reason spring cleaning is such a popular activity. Grime and gunk builds up over the winter months — and it happens on your RV as well. Sitting in storage may have resulted in a film of dirt, water spots, and other unpleasant things on the exterior of your rig. If that's the case, give your RV a good wash to get it ready to glisten on the road.

Before you wash it, you'll want to ensure the integrity of your rig. Look at the roof to ensure there aren't any cracking seams or sealant wearing away. Look at the corners and sidewalls as well for any gaps or holes.

Check the Interior

Open all your windows and doors and see if you hear any squeaky hinges. Scope out the various nooks and crannies to ensure no pests or critters set up home over the winter. Look around for any evidence of water damage. Test your appliances and lights to ensure everything still works.

2. DIY RV Maintenance

Not all your RV maintenance needs a professional. There are many tasks you can handle on your own.

Measure Your Tires

Use a tire pressure gauge to ensure that your tire's air pressure is compliant with the manufacturer's recommendations. Measure the tread to ensure it's not worn down too much. See if you can spot any cracks or other forms of damage.

Tend to Your Battery

Make sure your battery is free of cracks, which can sometimes occur when temperatures plummet. If your battery is fine, then you only have a few steps here. Disconnect it, clean the connections, check the fluid levels, and then charge it up.

Check Your Fluids

Your RV needs plenty of fluids to function properly. Look at your brake fluids, windshield fluids, and antifreeze/coolant. If anything is low, fill it up. If your RV uses a generator, you'll want to service the oil as well as the filters.

Dewinterize the Water System

This last step is simple. Drain your fresh water tank. Give it a good rinse. Fill it up again with clean water. Then run your water pump. This will get that clean water back into your lines. It also helps flush out any last antifreeze.
