Tips for Cleaning Inside Your RV

Owning an RV isn’t just about making memories and enjoying some of the best camping experiences you can get. There’s also going to be a lot of care and maintenance involved. Some of the most basic care is simply about making sure everything is clean. Cleanliness can help make your living environment more inviting and relaxing, it can also stave off grime and dirt related repairs. To save you a little bit of stress, consider doing a little bit of cleaning every day so you’ll have less to do during the deep cleans of the RV. And make sure you’re being smart about how you approaching RV cleaning. You won’t have as much room to work with, so the right strategy is key. Your local RV dealer, Jubilee R.V. Centre, has provided some of our tips to get you started, but stop by our location in Kamloops, British Columbia, near Vancouver, to swap tips with our experienced staff.

Bathroom

We’ll start with one of the more demanding cleaning areas, the bathroom. There are a few obstacles you’ll need to overcome here, the biggest one being you simply won’t have a lot of room to work with. RV bathrooms are small, so you’ll need to be smart about the kinds of materials you work with. For example, save even a little bit of room by swapping out the toilet bowl brush for rags or paper towels. Some products offer all-in-one cleaning solutions that can minimize the number of products you need. Just make sure they’re going to be gentle on the materials used to make your bathroom.

You might also want to adjust your cleaning schedule so you’re not trying to clean everything all at once. Your shower and mirror probably won’t need to be cleaned as often as the toilet. When you clean your toilet, make sure to fill the bowl a little bit and then flushing it a few times to make sure all the cleaner is gone. There’s no need to have to redo or restart your work as long as you approach the task with the right strategy.

Floor

With all the fun outdoor activities you’ll have planned, you’ll probably start to notice dirt and mud tracks on your floor. The nature of RV camping can make for dirty floors fairly quickly and even if you’re only going to be gone for a little while, you might want to have floor cleaning supplies on hand. If you have tile or linoleum, then you’ll probably be able to find a collapsible mop pretty easily. Disinfectant wipes should also work, though they can make for a lot of elbow grease when you’re doing more than just spot checking.

If you have carpet, there are smaller vacuums that might work, but we recommend a hand vacuum. This will make for more work when you’re cleaning, but it’ll take up less space and give you more storage room for other supplies. You may also want to have carpet cleaner on hand--just in case--and think about what you’re going to do when you want your carpets deep cleaned.

The Vents

When you’re working with smaller parts overall, the vents are going to get dirtier faster in an RV. You won’t need to clean them out all the time, but you’ll want to periodically clean them to ensure they’re going to function properly. When you do this, be sure to wash out the screens, clean the filters, and scrub the inside of the vent. Then leave it open to let it air dry a little faster and avoid stinky mildew.

The key to a clean RV is to clean as you go. Do a little bit each day while you’re on the road and avoid leaving messes lying about as it’ll start to get cramped. Plus, a cleaner RV is a homier RV.
